WHAT IS PERMANENT MAKEUP?
Permanent makeup has recently evolved tremendously due to its new techniques and pigment improvements. Permanent Makeup (PMU) is a cosmetic technique which deposits color pigment into the upper reticular layer of the skin and is considered permanent because it cannot be washed off. Unlike traditional tattoos performed on the body, permanent cosmetic professionals do not use traditional tattoo ink (dye). Permanent cosmetic pigment is more delicate and designed to work with the skin’s undertones.
WHAT IS MICROBLADING?
A Microblading procedure involves depositing pigment into the reticular layer of the skin (2nd dermal layer) with a manual hand tool that has a grouping of very fine needles. The microblade glides with gentle pressure over the skin and causes fine cuts (as fine as a paper cut), leaving a trace that can hardly be distinguished from real hair. Because the color is closer to the surface, the strokes appear crisp and very fine, giving you a natural looking enhancement while also creating depth through a 3D illusion.
DOES IT HURT?
Everyone has different pain thresholds. However, in general, it is not that painful. I tell my clients that the actual ink deposit feels like a paper cut. A topical anesthetic is used to numb the area being worked on. You also have the option of taking two over the counter Tylenol tablets prior to arriving for your appointment to reduce discomfort.
HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE TAKE?
It is a two-step process. The first session is about 3 hours depending on the procedure. It includes a consultation (if you have not previously had one), completion of consents, shaping the eyebrows to the client’s preference, microblading, and aftercare instructions. The second session is 4-6 weeks later, and is 1-2 hours. This is the touch-up session which I will fine tune your brows, which includes correcting any hair strokes that may have faded during healing.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Microblading is a permanent cosmetic brow procedure. Everyone is different, but typically the results will last anywhere between 12-18 months. However, this is not guaranteed because results depend on how well you take care of your new brows during the healing period, your skin type, and how well it retains the pigment. When the Microblading effect starts to fade (which is a very slow and gradual process) it is recommended that you schedule an additional touch-up.
CAN ANYONE HAVE MICROBLADING DONE?
Some high-risk clients who have severe and chronic medical issues (cancer, autoimmune disorders etc.) are deferred from having this procedure done (please contact me directly if you have specific health concerns or medical conditions). My client forms will cover all the necessary information regarding these questions. If you still want microblading done, please consult with your doctor and get a written clearance consent.
IS A CONSULTATION REQUIRED?
I highly recommend a consultation if a client is not 100% sure of receiving the procedure the same day. During the consultation, I will discuss with you the details of the procedure you have selected, any allergic reactions you are concerned about (a patch test can be done), and any other concerns or questions you may have. (If a client is already 100% sure they would like a procedure done, then a consultation is included in the initial appointment that has been scheduled to get the procedure done that same day).
IS IT SAFE?
All procedures performed adhere to strict OSHA standards for safety and sterilization.
